Common Decline Reasons
Insufficient Funds
Customer's account doesn't have enough money.
Solution: Ask customer to use a different card or pay partial with another method.
Card Expired
The card's expiration date has passed.
Solution: Customer needs to use a different card.
Incorrect PIN
Debit card PIN entered incorrectly.
Solution: Have customer try again or process as credit.
Do Not Honor
Bank refuses transaction for unspecified reason.
Solution: Customer should contact their bank.
Card Restricted
Card has usage restrictions or is blocked.
Solution: Customer should contact their bank.
When Every Card Declines
If all cards are declining:
- Check internet connection
- Verify payment terminal is online
- Try restarting payment terminal
- Contact support if persists
Handling Declined Payments
- Be discrete and professional
- Offer to try the card again
- Suggest alternative payment methods
- Never discuss specific decline reasons loudly
